Short Film Review: 'Denial' (2019)

From directors Mackenzie Leigh Barmen (who doubles as the cinematographer) and Misti Dawn Garritano (credited as the primary writer and lead actress) comes a story about a married couple. And to say any more than that would spoil the fun for the viewer!

I'm in denial that someone would carry around tools in their back pocket all day.

From directors Mackenzie Leigh Barmen (who doubles as the cinematographer) and Misti Dawn Garritano (credited as the primary writer and lead actress) comes a story about a married couple. And to say any more than that would spoil the fun for the viewer! However, for a short three-minute film it's entertaining and the twist is executed impeccably.

Denial features a small cast of just two, played by Timothy J. Cox and --- one-half of the director's chair--- Misti Dawn Garritano. While there isn't much in terms of dialogue or any elongated scenes featuring the typical flashy interactions, much can still be assessed regarding the status of the relationship being explored. Nothing is more important to this short than the summary provided, though.

Just another day in the lives of one happily(?) married couple.

Vague, yes, but undeniably intriguing. From there, the viewer can determine what the conclusion of the story means for the couple. It may not be the traditional way to structure a story such as this, but it is effective nonetheless. And it leaves you wishing that you could spend more time with these two as they navigate the trails and tribulations of marriage. Who said wanting more was always a bad thing?

If you're in need of a quick, short-film fix: this is a treat to the eye.
