Review: Coffee and Cigarettes IV (2016)

Coming in at a little over three minutes, Coffee and Cigarettes IV puts forth style over substance.

Coming in at a little over three minutes, Coffee and Cigarettes IV puts forth style over substance.

However, this works in favor of the film’s overall charm. Ian Snyder wrote and directed with the help of Jordan Fountain on camera and editing.In the opening shot, we glance up sky-high at a radio tower and as the camera pans down towards the street we are treated to graffiti art and fragmented blacktop cement. Everything is black and white. As far as scenery goes, nothing feels more Nebraskan. And while it may be weird, I wanted to be immersed in this setting for longer.

I suppose it has something to do with viewing your own state through the lens of film.Ryan Wulf and Haley Raven are naturally endearing and their chemistry is, undeniably, the reason the film works on every level. I wanted more; more time with the characters and their story. What happens with these two after the credits roll? Here's to hoping for more original content with this writer/director and cast!
